Little Blow Hole

A lot of people may have heard of the wonderful "Kiama Blowhole". It is a subterranean volcanic latite formation on a headland, which allows naturally compressed air to form intense spouts which burst through a hole in the rock. Under the right conditions and with oncoming seas from a suitable quarter, the spouts can rise to enormous heights.

Not very many people have heard of the "Little Blowhole", about 4 kms to the south. Same thing … smaller scale. The hole in the latite is no more than (maybe) 50 cms in diameter but today it was really firing. Each time, the eruptions are accompanied by a huge "WHOOP!" sound ... like a slightly muffled cannon. One of my favourite things to see in Kiama.
