Following our Noses

A half-open door
had a certain allure
inviting us through a wall.

The sign on a gate
was not so great
that warned Beware of the Bull.

We didn't venture through the door.
We walked on past the gate.
We chose a path beneath the trees
and left the rest to fate.

It's been a gloriously hot day, with just a light breeze. This afternoon we drove into Dartmouth to see what if any shops were open, as we had a little birthday shopping to do for a couple of family members who share a birthday at the end of the month. A few stores were open, but all chain stores, none of the little local shops. However, managed to get prezzies sorted.

We didn't go straight home, though. We stopped a couple of miles short of our village to explore lanes we'd not walked before. Our walk ended up lasting about an hour of a half and we managed to follow a circular route so that we didn't have to retrace our steps.

(For my own record: we parked near Cotterbury Forge and our route on foot took us through Bugford, then Ash, finally down a non-vehicular lane that came out at Eastdown. Back along the main road to pick up the car again and head home. It really was a very enjoyable stroll.)

In case you have not heard that our lovely fellow blipper Admirer died suddenly this week, 60Plus has asked blippers to share her lovely suggestion that we dedicate next weekend's Silly Saturday challenge, that Admirer always hosted, to her memory. If you would like to contribute your silly blip, please tag it #SilS195.

Admirer may no longer be here to distribute her kind words and laughter, or scatter stars and hearts, but the dedication will be a lovely way to remember our friend, who personified everything that makes this community great. (Thank you, 60Plus, for organising this tribute.)
