Day 92 An evening visitor
The hot weather and clear blue skies have returned to our part of the UK, which means back to watering all of the pots and planters, a chore we did this morning. We picked up Violet from school at lunchtime after which Mr MC disappeared to the golf course for the rest of the day and Violet and I loafed around in and out of the garden. Around teatime, I realised that the bird feeders were yet again empty, so with Violet's help we filled them up with peanuts and - at last - the suet fat balls that I found in Waitrose last week. Quite a few peanuts ended up on the grass and later in the evening I spotted this visitor kindly clearing them from the lawn for me. It seems that they really will eat anything. The robin is back after a worrying few days absence, see extra for another through the glass long distance shot.
Today is Windrush Day, marking 72 years since the Empire Windrush docked at Tilsbury bring 500 passengers from the Caribbean, who were invited to the UK to fill labour shortages after WW2. There can't be many who are unaware of the very recent Windrush Scandal a shameful episode sprung by the hostile environment policy. In March of this year the Windrush Lessons Learned Review was released, although it remains to be seen whether anything positive comes of that report.
