No Entry At The First & Last, Maidstone

Yesterday I watched a TV programme called the Great British Dig, the setting of which was Maidstone (my nearest town). It related to the search for a Roman settlement that may have underpinned a few of the area's back gardens. The crew knocked door-to-door to try to persuade locals to let them dig up their lawns. Several residents agreed and they proceeded to dig small pits in each garden. Remains of a bath house had been found some years ago and they did manage to find some Roman artefacts including shards of pottery and a roof tile.
How does this relate to my image? Well, when they took a well earned break from the digging they retired to the local hostelry - The First & Last.  It is currently closed due Covid-19 (hence the title of the image). This is not a pub in Maidstone that I had heard of so I took another micro trip to investigate on my way to get essential shopping (wine, baked beans and coffee).
This does make me seem as though I am more interested in the pub than the archaeology - which may well be true!
