The Feast

Went up to Leeds today to hear our son speak at an event called The Feast. They have an early Lent, which they end by inviting folk to a big, free meal. Loads of students cooked all day in their houses, and then carried their chairs, tables, crockery, cutlery and food to Left Bank Leeds (the former St Mary of Antioch church, derelict for 13 years and now restored for events like this).

No kitchen at the church and no heating either, so they also took portable heaters, which had minimal effect in the cavernous building - I ate with coat, scarf, hat and gloves on. But they all worked cheerfully - here they are setting up - candles, flowers and lights everywhere, a good band, and excellent food. Over 200 folk there, including a few homeless men.

And our boy spoke well - we felt proud.
