Capital of Scotland

Well it was for about 400 years and this is part of the Palace where Charles 1 was born in 1600 in Dunfermline. Until the Union of the Crowns in 1603 Dunfermline was the favourite residence of the Scottish royalty with several kings having been born there. Many of the royal families were also buried in the Abbey behind from where, as I passed this morning, I heard the beautiful sound of the Abbey carillon playing several hymn tunes. Through a window can be seen part of the tower which was rebuilt in 1819 with the words KING ROBERT THE BRUCE added to commemorate the burial there of Robert the Bruce (minus his heart).
