Fred Jowett, Branch Road Works, #Greetland

SUNDAY

Two walks today. The first walk of around 3 miles was down the muddy Blackburn Valley, Greetland following Black Brook upstream past the derelict mills at Gate Head Lane, Bowers Mill (multi-occupied) and finally Barkisland Mill which has been converted into luxury apartments.

The last leg of the walk took me past Branch Road Works. The sign "Fred Jowett & Son" Knitwear and Textiles, Branch Road Works has been painted to the sliding door of the building for decades so I was sad to see the door lying on the ground.

I had a quick word with the owners of the building who reassured me that the door had been removed following overnight damage and would be back in place shortly. I also took a photo if the old Joe Dean sign on the corner of Branch Road.

My second walk of the day was a brisk 2 mile "power walk" after dark with my daughter.
