Of Time & the City
Just back from FACT where there was a screening of the brilliant Terence Davies film "Of Time & the City". Described as both a love song and a eulogy to Liverpool, it is a personal account of one person's experience growing up in the city. It powerfully expresses, both through words and intelligent use of archive footage, that it wasn't better back then. Indeed, it was much, much worse. Although, I was also left with the impression that Davies doesn't particularly like the Liverpool of today, which is where, if I'm right about that, he and I will have to differ.
It is nevertheless an important work that documents Liverpool's post war evolution and should be recognised as such. If you get a chance to see it (there is a DVD) then it will be an hour of your time well spent.
