Day 87 Another visit to Connaught Water
This morning Mr MC and I managed another decent walk to Connaught Water and around the lake. Again the car park was overflowing so we parked half a mile away and walked through forest land to get there. The day began sunny but rain was forecast for midday. We managed to time our walk almost perfectly, returning to the car just as the first few drops fell. We had about 30 minutes of welcome rain and again later this afternoon.
My chosen pic shows three of five ducklings busily eating under their mum's watchful eye. We also saw some rather bigger 'babies', Canada geese. There was even an egret dipping under the water for an incredibly long time before resurfacing. He was too far away for a good shot. The saddest creature is the male swan who now swims the waters alone. In April his mate was found injured beside an empty nest and despite the best efforts of a nearby swan sanctuary, she died in early May, having a splayed leg injury which is apparently consistent with a crush style impact. Heartbroken for the grieving male and angry that anyone would wish to harm these beautiful creatures.
In other news, the Daily Briefing was presented by Oliver Dowden alone. As he is the Minister for Culture, Media and Sport, I assume he was chosen as there will be a live football match televised tonight, no spectators just virtual ones. It is not of interest to me, but I know many others feel differently! For us Wednesday viewing means The Repair Shop (Mr MC's favourite) and The Great British Sewing Bee, which is mine.
