Technology.
Today’s challenge is technology and originally I was going to photograph an old phone and then do a a piece on how phones have progressed through technology. Instead, while out walking this afternoon, I spotted this old telephone pole in a garden and asked permission to photograph it. So I will start here.
This is how telephones received their power from wooden poles with overhead wires spaced out in gardens and wires leading to each house. It really was an eyesore and phones themselves were wired so you could not move when making a call. After in the 1980s cellular phones were lintroduced with no wires allowing a small range of movement, then the Brick was born (my name for the first mobile phone) weighing in at 2kilos or 4.4lbs. Can you imagine carrying that around in your pocket?
Now we come to today’s phones which weigh 150-170 grams or 5-6 ounces and are wafer thin and not only for phone calls from any where but apps for doing all sorts of different things like taking this photo.
Technology has certainly changed the humble phone.
