Railway Children walk

Had a great walk this morning. Rain predicted but didn’t appear. It did remain mainly overcast but was very warm even without the sun.

Started and ended in Haworth appropriately by the station. The first part of the walk is parallel with the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway to Oxenhope. Not surprising really, it’s a very familiar but if the walk but sadly not, accompanied by the wonderful sound of steam trains today.
It’s a little while since we did this as the houses they were just starting to build then are now all up and occupied. They are just outside the village along the edge of the Bridgehouse Beck.
A little further along the Beck I spotted this chap. I shushed Chris so I could get nearer but someone else was crossing the Beck on the metal bridge behind him so he was soon off. I got this shot and two, not so good, of him taking off.

Crossing the rail way line just before Oxenhope station, we climbed up to the ‘Three Chimneys’ house used in the 1970 film. The route then takes you across Marsh Lane through the hamlet of Hole back down to Haworth Church.

We headed to Cobbles and Clay for a takeaway coffee but they are only opening Fridays and Saturdays so we got one from across the road at Villette and got some cake to share.
We sat on the wall to enjoy it and were unexpectedly joined by first one and then a second hen!  Not happy to just strut around our feet one jumped up and started pestering us! We finished out cake and headed down to the park to find a peaceful bench to drink our coffee on!
The second part of the walk to Oakworth Station starts near here but we decided to do this on another day.

Back at the station I spotted a poster advertising a celebratory weekend of events to celebrate 50 years of the original Railway Children film on the 29th - 31st of August. Wonder if that will go ahead? At least they were optimistically leaving it up.

Nice to walk somewhere a little different and get a coffee out albeit takeaway.

Stay safe everyone
