There’s Always One
The east wind wind pulling in haar and murk from the North Sea is a persistent presence these midsummer days. It’s as if nature is trying to provide the east coaster with the double whammy of lockdown and weather hopelessness.
The murk lightened enough during the morning encouraging me to to go for a route march through Morningside to Blackford Pond to mingle with the under5s and their keepers, at a safe distance of course, and to find the resident swans taking their brood for a leisurely circumnavigation of the water.
There are 6 goslings and they were well drilled in what order they had to swim with Mum and Dad. But there is always one as human parents with several children know- the one who refuses to conform and here he is, the gosling who is out of line.
I am beginning to be a fan of internet shopping given that the alternative is either not available or too busy for the vulnerable elderly. I have never before been a fan of Amazon for many reasons mostly pertaining to their lack of tax paying and to their stranglehold over smaller high street shops, but when push comes to shove, then it seems I am prepared to swallow my convictions.
Today I await the arrival of a book and a supply of oatmeal that might see me out. That’s another trouble with Amazon, having to bulk buy to obtain.
