Stopcock

Seventeen years ago when we moved in the water pressure was about 7.5 bar, which although was great for the sprinkler, it played havoc with a lot of our appliances like the washing machine and pressure washer, both of which had to be replaced.

So I fitted a pressure reducing valve (PRV) dropping the pressure to about four bar in the house (leaving mains pressure in the outside tap).

About eight or ten years ago the water board opened up the crossover valve in the middle of the village to feed the other (older) houses that are normally fed from Bourne.  They burst at least half a dozen water mains.  So they fitted a massive pressure reducing valve on the input to our side of the village, now we only get about 3.5 bar.

Our PRV became obsolete, and in fact impaired the flow even with the valve turned right up.  So I eventually got around to removing the PRV, and as the stopcock etc showed signs of leaking I replaced that while I was at it.

Job complete.

(Pity I didn't check the DoF when I snapped the shot . . . )
