Baby birds

My neighbour knocked on my door saying there were wee birds beside our path and that they were still alive. He kept the 2 cats away while I gently picked them up along with their nest which was by my door, seems like I'd been brought a present, and put them into a box in the kitchen. I phoned the SSPCA and after explaining what had happened, an inspector came to collect them. Wee scones I just stood talking to them and giving wee drops of water.
Inspector said they were either robins or dunnocks because of the red beaks.
Wee while later the inspector phoned to let me know they didn't make it, their injuries were too much.
I'm just glad we tried
