Driving Creek Railway and other adventures
We decided that despite slightly off weather, we'd head across to the other side of the peninsula and go to the Driving Creek Railway for a ride today. What a beautiful, inspirational place that is. One man's vision that he has turned into reality. It will be lovely to go back there in decades time and see how the planting is all looking then. His self built railway and trains are a delight. Well worth a visit if ever you are in the area.
We had hoped to also go to the Waiau Waterworks, but the weather was still a bit gloomy and windy, so instead we went on an adventure on the 309 road. We stopped for the piggies, and spent quite a bit of time scratching backs and bellies, and gooing over the little baby piglets. They're proper characters. After that we went on the small bush walk to the Kauri Grove. Awe inspiring. Then we slowly made our way back to Whitianga. The road is pretty treacherous, as we experienced when we came across a head on collision caused by a local going just too damned fast on the gravel road. No one was hurt thankfully.
It's been a blast!
