Trompe l’oeil

Literally’a trick of the eye’. Today we took delivery of our new majolica table from the ceramics workshop down the road. It is really heavy.

Majolica - a tin-glazed earthenware that was painted into with oxides and refired to fix the brilliant colours in the glaze. Possibly from the Italian name for Majorca where Moorish potters introduceD the technique on Mediterranean trading routes. It’s been made in Central Italy since the 15th century. When the table arrived it looked like it had been made for the house. Tapinassi is the name of the company.
