Fine Coffee, Good Day

...“feiner Kaffee, guter Tag“, written in Sütterlin handwriting style on a cup at Gilserberg Cafe, halfway from Darmstadt to Holzminden, in Middle Hessen. 

We were lucky to find the rural cafe open again, they make delicious cakes and serve especially fine coffee.
 
Using this old-fashioned writing style is to emphasise their long tradition. In German schools, Sütterlin handwriting, which is based on the old Gothic style, was abolished in 1941, but many of the now very old generation carried on to use it in private correspondence. 

Germans younger than 50 or 60 are hardly able to read Sütterlin, let alone write in it.
