Polyporus squamosus

This bracket fungus grows in overlapping tiers on broad leave trees. Sycamore, Ash, Willow, Poplar and Walnut are all liable to be attacked.

This particular one, however, is growing on a rotting log which had been washed up against the sea wall.

It was very early and quiet when I took this shot but unfortunately I did not see any Dryads.
