Buck Owens and the Buckaroos - Close Up The Honky Tonks (recorded January-June 1964, Capitol Studios, Hollywood CA)
In my music magazine catch-up under lockdown I have jumped ahead a couple of years to my oldest remaining Uncut magazine (Feb 2013), with its CD Honky Tonk Heroes - The Music That Inspired Gram Parsons, one of its best, with music spanning from 1946-1964. Close Up The Honky Tonks is a song that Gram Parsons performed with the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers. In my mind I can hear him harmonising with Emmylou Harris on the song but I seem to have invented that as I can't find any recording of such a thing.
The song was written by Red Simpson and this was the original recording, from Buck Owens' album Together Again, and features the harmony vocals of Don Rich and Tom Brumley's pedal steel.
