Common Enchantments

Film Photos

I finally got back the first prints from the roll of color film that I decided to try for the first time in 15 or so years.     I can tell you that having film developed and prints made is very costly..$20 for 36 photos!   Yikes!    Digital is definitely a cheaper way to take photos.

These are the best of the lot that were mostly exposed properly and looked okay.

This is what I have learned after studying these photos.    First of all none of the 36 photos were anything that I would keep...this roll of film was to "just see what I could do".    Not much is my thinking.  Even though I tried my best to get the manual settings what I thought would be best, I was way off in some cases.  Some of the photos I shot in P mode.    The light was really hard to determine.  I did use the exposure compensation a few times when it was really bright.  The photos are not overexposed but they have poor color quality in the bright areas...like the sky especially.    Photos like the flowers turned out better than landscapes.    I do like the fact that the colors are very true in the dark areas and also where I did not have bright light.    I like the way the photos look. Everything is so crisp and clear.  Very different from printing a digital photo. The structure (for want of a better word) of the objects in the photo is full and smooth whereas sometimes in digital prints the colors do not seem to be all there (due the pixels I am sure).

I still have the black and white roll of film and two more rolls of color film.  Trying to decide if I will continue with this or not.   I may try film on the birds in the yard, the flowers or maybe create some still life.

Or I might see if a friend who likes film wants the film for his use.
