Breakthrough

I have mountains of slides from the days before digital. I’ve tried all kinds of things in the past - we had a flatbed scanner (quality wasn’t great and it was slooooow); I borrowed a super-expensive Nikon scanner from a friend (noisy and slow and very time consuming and the scanned images still needed a lot of work); and we tried several scanning services (really good quality but I was petrified about sending off all the slides and losing them, plus it was expensive given the amount.)

And then tonight I had a minor brainwave: put the slides on the light box and photograph them. It worked superbly. This was just taken on my phone - the images out of my camera were much better. Cheap, quick and surprisingly effective. My new lockdown project.

Photo taken in 1995, somewhere along the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar. That was a couple of days we will never forget.
