Tyler Hill

is just outside Canterbury and is so named because here clay was dug and fired. The tiles of Canterbury Cathedral came from here. Today we walked in Tyler Hill woods where the ground is pockmarked a bit like Hill 60 outside Ypres but for much more peaceful reasons of digging out clay whereas Hill 60 was lethally mined. Strangely growing up we children would lay on a slope known to us as Hill 60. I now I imagine this was possibly named by an earlier generation of children whose fathers had returned from WW1 battlefields.
