Finland 11 in Finlayson area
Our patients have stopped vomiting but still sick. Me and Leevi drove to Tampere to buy school books for Leevi. We also visited art gallery TR1 to see a photography exhibition "Finland 11" where 11 young photographers are broadening the horizons of Finnish photojournalism. (Exhibition will move to the Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki on 15 February 2013). The exhibition was excellent collection of Finnish documentary photography and I highly recommend it! Maija Tammi's Removals series was especially effective. The series examines fear, pain and mortality in Finland. The series looks at the most common diseases in Finland by showing the raw evidence of treating those diseases just a few minutes after the operations.
My photo of the day was shot near art museum TR1, in old Finlayson mill area. The Finlayson area has strong links to the history of Tampere; indeed, the development of Tampere as a city is said to have begun with the Finlayson mills. The first building, TR1 aka the six-storey,was taken into use in the 1830s. The Finlayson mills primarily manufactured fabrics, famous for their quality. In the 1860s half of the city's inhabitants were employed by Finlayson's - which is why the area was called a city within the city.
In the picture you can see a part of TR1 and TR2 buildings. The tower was built in between of two buildings and there were stairs, toilets and sprinkler systems. During the war the tower was used as air surveillance tower.
