Not having it

Another in my growing series of apparently common things that I've never seen before.
The common swift (Korscheltellus lupulina).

A good day apart from the seemingly obligatory computer problems.
Finally placed with another tutor, hopefully I can progress now.
And then concluded the saga of the larch...
We've not been sure what to finish the new mancave in. We like the painted soft green of the current one, but also fancied a change. A lot of Google led us towards larch, but in a modern planked style. Then we narrowed it down to English Larch as the grain is much stronger.
Then we found out that:
(a) its w-a-y more expensive
&
(b) pretty much nobody can actually supply it.
Back to a painted finish.
Then a chance conversation with an old acquaintance led to a trip last week to meet Phil who's workshop and timber yard are less than two miles from us as the crow flies. A truly fascinating hour with a master craftsman who is just passionate about wood.
And today... A cost well enough within our budget that we'll be putting down a larch floor as well. Not just English larch, but Phil can tell me where the specific trees came from (Thirlmere) and will hand mill it to our specification. He's also doing it double edged so we can spin boards to suit the patterning. I also (Phil doesn't know this yet lol) get the benefit of picking his brains :-)))) very pleased to be using my favourite tree and to be keeping the whole project & materials so local.
