LOCK DOWN – DAY 77
11 weeks in lock down. 11 weeks and all my human has done for 11 weeks is walk me and go to Aldi once a week. Is it even going to be possible to get back to a normal life and do all the things that she used to do, after being lazy for so long?
Anyway today we went on a mammoth walk to Western Harbour. 12.4 miles to be precise. Western Harbour is a huge complex of flats (see extras) which have been built at the end of a bit of wasteland which is jutting out to sea. Some of them have fabulous views overlooking the Firth of Forth over to Fife. And I'm sure the interiors are lovely too. However these flats were built a few years ago when the original plan for the Edinburgh trams was to run from Edinburgh Airport to Newhaven. Well that didn't happen as the tram terminal is now in the city centre almost 3 miles away and so there are hundreds and hundreds of flats with hardly any other infrastructures in place. They have a David Lloyd Gym. Whoopee doo! The area is only served by one bus and that isn't running during lock down. It would be really interesting to find out how many people actually bought these flats on the understanding that they would have a mega quick route into the city centre? They don't even have any shops/restaurants within easy walking distance. Actually that's a lie. There is a 24 hour Asda about a 15 min walk away but one would have to walk past a couple of areas of wasteland and we spotted a man having a wee in some bushes so not exactly the most pleasant of walks.
To get to Western Harbour we had to walk through a couple of parks and along the Waters of Leith and along some of the cycle paths so I had a really good run about and lots of time to splash about in the river but now I'm pretty tired. And so is Ann.
We've had a lovely walk today. I wonder when we'll go on another mammoth walk?
PS – Just watched the news. Apparently Scotland MIGHT be able to move into phase 2 of lock down restrictions being lifted, next Thursday (18th June). At least that would mean we could have friends round for dinner. Yay!
…………….And all restrictions lifted in New Zealand!!! I wonder when the UK will get to that point?
