Geology writ large

A productive day meant thst we didn't get out for a walk until late in the day. Fortuitously that also happened to be the best part of the day.
A long looping wander of the reserve, the air alive with skylarks, the fields awash with purple orchids. There's a lot to love about here.
From amidst the karst the distant view of my favourite lonely larch as it sits atop classic limestone shelving fades to a back drop of those rounded sleeping gritstone elephants that make up the far more ancient Howgills. The valley fields betwixt are rich in flora and lend themselves well to farming, they make a beautiful patchwork now while the meadows are being mown.
