Early morning run

In my mid-teens I used to do a paper round before school, which involved me getting up at a quarter to six in the morning. It was obviously quiet at that time of day but in the months when it was light I'd often see older people pottering about.

I read a theory once, which speculated that in order to keep watch back in the days when we didn't have houses to live in, we evolved such that younger people were biologically programmed to stay up into the small hours and then older people would wake up to take over.

Whatever the truth of the matter, I do wake up earlier than I used to and I'm quite comfortable getting up at around half-six each day. And in turn that means I can quite easily get out for a run before work. Usually, on the days I go out, I might do between three and five miles but today I wanted to do the walk that Dan and I did a couple of weeks ago, which is just over eight miles so I was out of the door at seven-fifteen.

It was a beautiful morning for a run: clear skies and sunshine but not yet too hot. I did manage to get slightly lost just past Badgergate - I think I was over-confident about knowing the route having walked it with Dan - but I still managed to do it in just under an hour and half. I'd like to do it again while we have. dry weather (there are patches that have the potential to be quite boggy) and I'll wear some thicker leggings next time: there are two passages that are "nettle alleys". Look at my extra!
