Snipe fly
I think this is a Snipe fly, also known as a Downlooker fly, on the Iceberg climbing rose. These flies are so named because they are often looking down at their prey of a smaller insect from above. They then pounce, catch the insect and take it back to their look-out to eat! There are 15 species in the UK. This fly of course is looking upwards!!
The weather has now changed, nearly 10 degrees cooler and a little rain at last! Well over a quarter of an inch so that should do the farm and garden some good but we do need a little more.
