At last, a poem

I began this year's NaPoWriMo with great enthusiasm, but somehow didn't manage to make it to the end of the month. So I'm happy this one arrived and I managed to catch it in my butterfly net.

I've been very unhappy with Republicans who blindly, subserviently follow the leadership foolish stumbling of our not-quite-legitimately-elected Commander-in-Tweet. This poem is my advice to those members of the House and Senate who cower behind the Orange Menace.

A PLEA TO HOUSE & SENATE REPUBLICANS

Where is the party of Abraham Lincoln?
Where are Republicans brave, bold, and true?
Who’s left to honor the sacrifice given
By Black and Brown for the Red-White-and-Blue?

Don’t be a coward who lurks with the Liar,
Fearing to speak and to vote for what’s right!
Gerrymand experts rob voters of power,
Trading our voice for Trump’s dross in the night.

Watch as your President tears down our country,
Dismantles tradition, wise treaties destroys.
Whipped into unity, how long will you be
Willing to vote as just “one of the boys”?

You could be noble, heroic, applauded!
You could still rescue the Land of the Free!
Think of George Washington, Monroe and Adams,
Not seeking kingship but democracy.

Stand as a patriot, not a colluder!
Leave a bright mark on America’s page.
Rescue our nation from the Crude Deluder:
Impeach and depose him to rescue our age.

Let your best symbol be Liberty’s statue,
Welcoming tempest-toss’d onto our shore.
With those of every hue, faith, and ambition,
Help us unite beside our Golden Door.
