At Last...
At last we had some rain today after nearly a month of hot, sunny weather with no rain at all. My new slimline water butt filled up in a few hours, so I'll get a big brother to stand next to it once my drain issue is sorted. It was also cold, 9C most of the day. A lovely catch up by phone with G earlier as we had to abandon our plans for a walk.
Day 82 / Day 74 of Lockdown / Day 5 of Step 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 357 to 40,261, so now twice the number we were initially told by the CSA would be a 'good outcome'. An ONS survey says the no. of people infected per day by CV in the community in England is c5,600 (about 1 in 1k), which is down from 8k last week (only 1,650 actual positive tests today) Worryingly only 29% of people in the survey testing positive had symptoms at the time of the test.
Matt Hancock, Health Sec gave the briefing on his own today - no reason given but I suspect the Press asking the advisors political questions and the advisors stating SAGE advice that differed from policy might be possible reasons. A lot of questions on the R rate. This modelled, lag measure is still between 0.7 & 0.9, but per 1 of the 10 models used it is 1 in the North West and South West. This together with the no. of infections in the area indicates the risk and both regional no.s can be seen at https://www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk/now-casting/
All hospital staff to wear face masks from 15th June and a similar approach is being agreed in care homes. All visitors to hospital visitors including outpatients must now wear face coverings. The BMA says the wearing of face coverings should be extended to all areas where social distancing is not possible. MH told us NOT to attend mass gatherings including demonstrations of more than 6 people due to the risk of increasing the virus spread, I'm very pleased to see this instruction.
