More about orchids
I find this one rather interesting.
It is Dactylorhiza elata. Described by the Royal Horticultural Society as Robust Marsh Orchid.
It grows in the wild in western Mediterranean countries. France and Spain.
And as you can see here it grows pretty well in our garden. This one was given to us by a friend many years ago. You can also buy it from a Nursery here.
So why does it not grow in the wild here?
Well I think it must be something in our climate which prevents it from seeding. It grows from underground tubers and we know it can be divided because we have done it and now have more than one clump. But we have never seen it produce any seed.
Does anyone else have it in their garden. We have had it for about 20 years.
