Dervaig church tower

Looking prominent in the sunshine today. I spent some time looking for information on line about the church tower, a little over a hundred years old and I understand, fundraising is ongoing for a new bell. The information below was taken from a several websites.

Kilmore Parish Church, Dervaig
The rounded tower, a simple pencil shape, is now an unusual sight, although a few still remain in Ireland.  A bell weighing about 600 lbs (272.15 kg) and nearly 14 inches (35.56 cm) in diameter hangs in the tower.  It is probably late 19th century and was cast by a bell foundry in Glasgow.

Although picturesque, the village`s most striking feature is without doubt the parish church of Kilmore which has a pencil tower, similar to many churches found in Ireland. It was designed by Peter MacGregor Chalmers who is also responsible for the similarly shaped St Columba`s Church on Canna. The current church at Dervaig was completed in 1905 and replaced the village`s original church of Kilmore which was built in 1755 and had replaced the Old Parish Church of Kilcolmkill which stood nearby.
