Hard To Believe ...

... that this is our new reality.  Armoured vehicles parked on street corners, military police toting scary-looking machine guns on the sidewalks, scores of Boston police patrolling after dark, helicopters constantly circling overhead, and more and more buildings with their windows covered over with plywood to protect against looters.  Last night there was another large BLM demonstration which was thankfully peaceful and orderly, although you could definitely feel tension in the air.  This afternoon thousands and thousands are expected to converge on Boston Common for another protest, and we have all been alerted to anticipate the possibility that things might become more "fluid" after nightfall. It was certainly a weird experience last night to have two huge, heavily armed camouflage-wearing military policemen brush past us in our lobby as we were waiting for the elevator after walking Mabel on our terrace.  I guess they were using the staff loo here!
