Do You Know Where I'm From?

We had some Koren visitors come to our Thai dorm. It began a conversation among my Thai friends about how you can tell who is from what country in Asia. Now to be politically correct and all, my disclaimer is that these are their opinions and they were said in a very friendly way, just observations and generalizations, some true and some possible misconceptions (which I understand can be dangerous, but I thought were interesting.) The conversation went something like this:

Me: "Where are these people from?"
L: "Korea"
S: "I knew it! I thought Korea for sure."
Me: "How could you tell?"
L: "Their skin is lighter, and their eyebrows are lighter too."
S: "And the way they dress."
(These days, most Thai people, especially the younger generation, love Korean style, TV dramas, actors, singers, etc.)
Me: "And people from China?"
S: "You can tell from their eyes."
L: "Yep, you can tell right away."
S: "They kind of have a northern Thai look."
Me: "Maybe you can, but I can't always. What about people from Japan?"
L: "Their skin is lighter too."
S: "And it's smoother because it gets cold where they live."
Me: "And from Laos?"
S: "They look like people from eastern Thailand, just a little darker."
Me: "From the Philippines?"
L: "That's easy!"
We all laugh.

So I learned a bit about how Asians identify each other. The funny thing is, I've met Thais with light and dark skin, light and dark eyebrows, big and small eyes, smooth and rough skin. And they are all beautiful! :)

By the way, this young beauty is neither Koren or Thai... Any guesses?
