Silver-washed Fritillary (Argynnis paphia)
Went to the Southdowns today in the hope of a few butterflies. Still feeling extremely down thinking of Thursley Common and the fact that some idiot probably started the fire...albeit accidentally but that still makes them a moron.
I managed a blip of a splendid Silver-washed Fritillary one of several species seen today...these included Meadow Browns, Small Heaths, Common Blues, Adonis Blue, Small Blue, Brimstone and Speckled Wood. I was finished before mid day as it was so hot. Tomorrow I am out with half a dozen members of my local RSPB group and we are meeting up at 7.30am for an early start and will finish around mid day as it gets hot.
