More recycling!

Another gloriously sunny day so more work in the garden before the weather breaks as they say it will in a day or so.

I've been watching Charles Dowding and his no-dig gardening. Today I decided to do a small trial with some beans I wanted to sow, hoping it's not too late to get them started. I cut out the bottom of some old, past their best, plastic pots. I placed them under the swing structure, which is rusting but sound enough to support beans, directly on to the grass. I tried to bang in some canes as a starter for the beans to climb before completing their growing up the twine. That was a bad idea as the ground is so stoney and I broke a few before abandoning the cane idea! I then half filled each pot with alpaca poo, acquired from a local friend and which has been fermenting nicely in the heat! I topped up the pots with compost and sowed the beans. Time will tell!

Another quick walk with Reg but very fortuitous. En route we passed Dale Farm where they have a lovely poly tunnel near the roadside so I always have a little peek to see what's growing. As we approached the farm gate their dogs started to make a real fuss when they saw Reg. Lovely dogs and very friendly just like to make a noise much to Reg's disgust and he completely ignores them! Anita and her husband, I can never remember his name, were sat outside and came across for a chat. She asked if I would like some vegetable plants as she has a huge excess. She didn't need to ask twice. I'm going to drive along the road and collect them tomorrow after my shopping trip.

Barry has built a wood store today, well it will be finished tomorrow, ready to store all our logs and sticks piled up at the side of the house at the moment.

Vegetable quiche and parsnip mash made for dinner, and that was another day done..
