Beneath Biscay

Study in grey, white and rust

Out for a walk Sunday lunchtime. In normal times this would be one of the busiest times of the week on the streets with everyone out to 'tomar el vermut' (a euphemism to going for the traditional Sunday lunchtime 'vermouth', or whatever your preferred tipple and socialising). The bars and terraces would normally be packed.

Today however it was really quiet. Perhaps it was the fact that showers were predicted and in the event of a shower people knew they wouldn't be able to take refuge inside the bars.

Thursday and Friday nights both sounded quite busy on the streets although we didn't venture out so can't tell how well people were respecting social distancing.

Let's hope that as lockdown is eased, the Spanish are able to maintain the discipline that has seen Spain bring down rates of infection and fatalities so effectively.

We have been hoping that well be able to travel to travel outside of Asturias by the end of June so that we can go Galicia where we've booked a cottage for a week. There's has just been a fresh outbreak in a residential home I Gijón with 19 cases (15 residents and 4 care workers) so I think it'll be touch and go.
