While I was faffing with images today for an article in a newsletter we've started.

I was asked the question 'which way does the Queens head face on coins?'

My answer, after looking at the stamp I'd just photographed was "well if its the same way as she faces on stamps, to the left!"

Turns out, the answer is:
Since the time of Charles II, the direction in which the monarch's head faces on coins has changed with every succeeding monarch.
The same does not apply to stamps - the monarch always faces left.

So, another quite useless fact for my head to store! Ha haa!
