Read some fairly grim stuff on the net today about 'enriched' flour and experiments carried out with rats.

One set of rats were fed with wholemeal bread, made using stone ground wholemeal flour, the other set with 'enriched' white flour (the kind that makes the usual supermarket white sliced) bread.

The first set (wholemeal) were healthy and normal with good growth and lasted several generations until the end of the experiment; the other set - well they struggled with lots of problems, and were extinct by the 4th generation .......
