Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park
Monday
It was a beautiful morning, so we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast out on the patio, enjoying watching the birds at the feeders. I was happy to discover this morning that Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park, up in Hamilton, is now open to members only. In fact it had been open for members since May 4, so we lost a couple of weeks there. We got out after breakfast, as we knew showers and thunderstorms were due to move in during the afternoon. This was another new experience for Laura, as although she has been with us to see their amazing Christmas light display, she had not been there in daylight before. We had the park virtually to ourselves, a few other cars driving around, but we only saw one other group of people! We enjoyed a number of the sculptures, and some of the beautiful flowers, especially the gorgeous iris, but by then the clouds were gathering and beginning to look quite ominous, so we drove round the rest of the park, and then headed home. The top left sculpture is one of my favourites in the park, “Wherefore art thou”, by Sam McKinney, a Kentucky artist. On the way we went through some absolutely torrential rainfall - quite scary really, as it was too fast for the wipers to handle, so you could barely see where you were going, yet if you stopped and pulled onto the hard shoulder, you were afraid of being run into. Fortunately it didn’t last too too long, but quite long enough! By the time we got home, it was virtually dry, and as we prepared our cookout meal, the skies cleared, the sun came back out and we able after all to eat our meal outside in the lovely late afternoon/early evening warmth and light see extra.
