The Dreamer

The Dreamer is a Shona sculpture from Zimbabwe, although we bought it from a lively Zimbabwean sculptor at Hampton Court Flower Show many years ago.  It's carved from soapstone and there is a lovely contrast between the smoothly polished surfaces and the textured unfinished surfaces.

Today I'm dreaming of the holiday I should have been going on.  We should have been sailing from Oban on an old cruise ship for 95 passengers called the MS Serenissima.  The ship had been chartered by a group of New Zealand naturalists, with whom we have sailed before.  They spend 2 weeks sailing round the Scottish Islands each summer before going on to the Arctic for the summer season.  We have rebooked for the 24th May 2021, so I can carry on dreaming of Iona, Isle of Skye, St Kilda, Isle of Lewis, Orkneys, Shetlands, Fair Isle...
