Maybe half an hour after I was fiddling around with corks we heard a slightly irritating beeping, upon further investigation we discovered that every alarm panel in the house was emitting the same beep, all of them telling us the same sad story - the back up battery needed changing...unfortunately this has to be done by someone who holds the appropriate certification.
