Mama Bird

While sitting out back I noticed this pair of birds.  The one at the bottom of this shot is obviously this year's hatchling  and the one at the top of the shot is its mother.  I say mother because of her actions.  The youngster would squawk and attempt to get close to her but she would not allow it.  As long as the child would peck at the ground she stayed still and watched.  As soon as he tried to get close enough to feed from her she jumped out of his reach.   But she never flew off and left him alone.
