Cloudscape

The view from the house is the same yet different every day.
I may have to take up the study of clouds. They fascinate me
The county has elected not to reopen the beaches before the Memorial Day weekend holiday. The weather is warming up and it is feared that people will once again flock to the beaches as they did a couple of months ago, forcing the closure in the first place.

Either there are a lot of selfish people or a lot of stupid ones. How many times do the reasons for social distancing, hand hygiene and mask wearing have to be explained? I do think that there are so many statistics being thrown around that making sense of them is difficult if not impossible. And the rules seem to change every day. Not to mention the number of people being tested. John, who has told me that he 'thinks in numbers' , doesn't agree with me that the numbers can be manipulated at will, but even he says that there are rules for how they should be interpreted.

We are working on a birthday dinner for Jim on Saturday. The weather is promising and we are figuring out the logistics of sharing a meal while still maintaining  social physical distance outside. I never thought I would ever use up the massive pile of paper plates we bought at Costco about five years ago,  in fact I don't know why I bought them in the first place because I don't really like to use them, but it's looking like it may soon happen. Who could have predicted that the only way to be able to celebrate a family birthday 'in person' would be to stay two meters away from each other?

After being told for ten weeks what we should do and what we shouldn't, we are now entering a new stage of  trying to figure out how to get out. All fifty states have instituted some form of relaxation of the rules. It appalls me to see that there seems to be a definite political interpretation. I  sense that while the public health officials and the governors try to figure out  what to do next,  most people are deciding for themselves how to go about their re integration into society. How the people who flaunt the whole notion, the people who are afraid to put a foot over the doorstep, the people who have no jobs and no income, and all those in between are going to manage this remains to be seen....

It feels pretty weird to be eyeing our closest friends and even family and wondering whether we'll let them into our house. It goes against the grain. So does using paper plates....
