Day 57 : baking day
All through history, people have revered bakers for getting up in the middle of the night to provide our daily bread.
I’m beginning to doubt that reverence (apart from those who make croissants & spinach pies for breakfast.)
I’ve not had to drag myself out of bed at crack of dawn (0503 today!) to make these!
1 hour start to finish using the simple recipe.
1 cup self raising flour
1cup plain/whole meal flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup buttermilk (or 2 of yoghurt)
Mix dry ingredients
Add liquid & mix
Turn out onto baking tray for bread
(You must cut a cross in the top or it doesn’t cook)
Flatten and quarter for the soda
30 mins at 200C for the bread
15mins each side for the soda
Eat while warm (that’s included in the hour)
