urban peregrine
After the enforced break from seeing the peregrines I went down to the derelict mill today to reacquaint myself. It was my first sighting of the new male peregrine that quickly established himself after CK (his ID ring lettering) was killed by gun shot. The good news is that the pair are feeding chicks (is the dad CK or the new guy, we will never know, both were mating with her). The chicks aren't visible high on the building but the female is spending most of her time on the nesting ledge and they take in small food scraps which is the tell tale sign. The blip is the female away from the nest taking a break. The new male is in extra, his ring suggests he is a 3 year old from the Derby Cathedral family.
It was good to see them again and I am looking forward to seeing chicks when they are larger and coming to the front of the ledge, probably in a couple of weeks from now.
