Trappings of an Honorable Man

The dress coat and uniform shirt of the Fire Chief of the Liberty Hill Fire Department in Central Texas. The Chief and his wife, the department's EMS Director, are currently on suspension over some ludicrous claims, apparently generated by an Austin attorney who makes a good living causing strife between fire departments and their fiduciary bodies, known as Emergency Services Districts, which then results in the current fire chief either resigning in disgust or being fired, then restriking the contract between the department and the ESD (or disbanding the fire department and finding a new one with which to contract.) He has used this tactic in at least 5 other departments that I've found thus far. Worth noting is that board members of these Emergency Services District are appointed by the County Commissioners Court, have taxing authority, and absolutely no accountability to the citizenry - no means to impeach or otherwise remove them, no means to vote on the tax rate they set (up to the cap of 10 cents per hundred dollars valuation), or to have any structured input to their actions. This situation in Liberty Hill - as others before and I fear after it - is deplorable.
