The harmless Hawthorn Fly is generally called a St Mark’s Fly because it emerges around St Mark’s Day on 25th April and during recent days there have been many flying around with their conspicuous long legs hanging down as they fly around searching for females.  Perhaps it was oblivious to the nearby camouflaged Orange Tip butterfly with its mottled green and white underwings with the orange tip just discernible when it moved.
