The Island

From Ruskin's view, you can see the river Lune below making its way directly towards you before it takes a sharp turn to its left and briefly divides in two, passing either side of the what the Ordnance Survey maps prosaically label 'The Island'.

To be honest, I don't know when it formed. I'm sure it wasn't there when I first moved here but I could be wrong. I need to find some old maps or photos. Either way, it's not an island at the moment; the branch of the river that passed behind it had dried up.
