Shark Attack!

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellows,

The first half of Sunday was a complete write-off. I woke up with a migraine and it just got worse and worse and worse so I just moped about on the couch, doing not much of anything.

Caro was not much better. She's felt her period coming on for a few days and has been dreading it. As a bloke, it is sort of hard to empathise, but I tried.

"It just feels like this," Caro said, clenching both her fists.

I tried to imagine. But lacking the equipment it is not easy.

"It is like bad stomach cramps?" I asked.

"No, because it's not in your stomach," she explained. "It's lower down, and it goes right into your lower back."

I tried to imagine.

"A bit like gastro? When you've got vicious wind? Like really bad diarrhoea?"

"Yes," she said, rolling her eyes at me. "It's EXACTLY like bad diarrhoea."

I don't think she was being entirely honest with me when she said that.

Fortunately, she has her female friends to fall back on. They understand. Caro's friend Liv has had similar issues to Caro and said the first period after surgery is, "like a shark attack".

Hence Caro's apprehension.

But Caro was not like me. Instead of moping about, she went out and did the garden! She cut back loads of brambles and did some weeding!

She told me it felt much better having done all that, and took her mind off things. By the time she came back in, and gave her gardening gloves to Punky to play with (he loves the smells) my headache was also lifting.

So the second half of Sunday has been more productive. Don't get me wrong, I didn't stray far from the couch, but there has definitely been less moping.

S.
